Europe Trend Week 23
Temperatures have increased and seasonal fruits have continued their progress (strawberries at competitive prices in Northern and Eastern Europe, stone fruits still expensive and limited in Southern Europe), causing a fall in banana demand. However, promotions in the supermarket sector, especially in France and Italy, have helped keep sales at decent levels. Furthermore, the overall supply, although still large, has continued its seasonal fall.
The Africa / French West Indies supply has remained near-average (-5%): despite the temporary fall in FWI volumes because of smaller shiploads (Pentecost public holiday), falling African volumes have nonetheless remained above average (+5%).
In addition, although incoming Colombian and Ecuadorian shipments have begun their seasonal fall, volumes have remained above average. In this context there have been some stocks available here and there, and prices have reached a disappointing ceiling for the season.
In Spain, the market remains firm because of the shortage of Canaries volumes. Finally, the improvement on the Russian market has continued due to lively demand.
